As mentioned in your letter, we are transitioning all @eos.net mailboxes to Google Apps. Google Apps has all of the capabilities of our system, plus many more, and we are offering this at no cost to you. As long as Google doesn't charge us, we won't charge you. By July 11th all of our email will be going through Google. If you haven't changed over by that time, all of the email since our switch will be accumulating on Google, so it will be there for you to get. Google Apps has all the capabilities of Google's great free email services, GMail, offered to ISPs and businesses with their own domain.

Here are some instructions on how you can proceed:

1. Use your web browser (i.e. Internet Explorer, Firefox, Netscape, Safari, etc.) to go to portal.eos.net
2. Click on the "sign in" link on the right.
3. Enter your username (omit the "@eos.net" portion of your email address) and the password you gave me.
4. Click the "sign in" button.

If all goes well you should be logged in.

5. Click on the "Email header"

If you prefer, you can work with your email entirely within this web interface. However, if you prefer to have an email application (i.e. Outlook, Outlook Express, Eudora, Mac OS X Mail, etc.) handle your email, you should continue with the following steps.

6. After the screen refreshes, click on "Settings" at the top right.
7. There are many settings that you can adjust as you wish.
8. Click on the "Forwarding and POP/IMAP" tab.
9. Click on "Enable POP for all mail" and/or "Enable IMAP".

You should not check both options unless you have more than one computer, Blackberry, etc. that is checking the SAME mailbox. The basic difference between POP & IMAP is that with POP, the mail is copied and stored on your computer. You have the option, that after a message is copied to your computer, it can be deleted from the mail server. With IMAP, the mail is stored on the Google mailserver. Typically POP is used for your "main" computer, (so your main computer always gets all the mail) and IMAP is used for other computers and devices like Blackberries. (so that they can be used to view any new mail if you are not at your main computer)

10. Click on "Save Changes".
11. If you enabled "POP", click on the "Configuration Instructions" link which will explain how to set up email for your email application.
12. If you enabled "IMAP", click on the "Configuration Instructions" link which will explain how to set up email for your email application.
13. If you enabled BOTH "POP" and "IMAP", you should use the appropriate instructions for each device that is checking mail. For example, your computer might use POP while a Blackberry might use IMAP.
